Fencer sits in protest after controversial loss

South Korean fencer Shin A Lam staged a dramatic sit-down protest for more than an hour after losing a controversial Olympic Games epee semi-final.

A tearful Shin refused to leave the piste after her 6-5 defeat to Germany's Britta Heidemann as her coach continued to object to the result.

"I am very emotional. I should have won," said 11th seed Shin.

Ukraine's Yana Shemyakina went on to win gold in the women's individual epee after a nail-biting 9-8 extra-time win over reigning Olympic champion Heidemann.
